About the Department
In 1970, the Academy of Agriculture of Hamedan received the approval of the Ministry of Sciences and Higher Education for two fields of Rural Cooperation and Agricultural Extension and for the first time in the country, field of Agricultural Extension was established in Hamedan. Remarkable professors including Dr. Mansour Gholami (Current Minister of Science, Research and Technology), Dr. Iraj Malak Mohammadi, Dr. Seyyed Mahmoud Hosseiny, Dr. Yusuf Hejazi, Dr. Abdolhamid Papzan, and Dr. Mohammadreza Hamze'i were among the first alumni of the field in this center. Also, Dr. Ismail Shahbazi was one of the remarkable instructors of this center. The Academy of Agriculture of Hamedan continued its activities and admitted students until 1979 and then joined Bu-Ali Sina University in 1980 and the equipment and professors of the academy were moved to the current location of the Faculty of Agriculture. From 1980 to 1983, due to the Cultural Revolution and recession of the universities, the field of Extension of Agriculture was not offered in any university. In 1984 the field was revived in Tehran University. As a result of reformations after the Revolution and emigration of experts of Agriculture from the country or from Hamedan to Tehran, this field was not offered in Hamedan until 1994 and in that year with the efforts of Dr. Mahmoud Ghaemi and the late Dr. Hassan Rakhshan, the field of Extension of Agriculture was revived in Bu-Ali Sina University at B.A level under the title of Agricultural Extension and Education. In 2009, M.A course in Rural Development and the next year M.A course in Agricultural Extension and Education were established in this university. Also students are admitted at the level of PhD. in the fields of Rural Development, and Extension of Agriculture since 2011 and 2012, respectively. As of 2016, the Department of Agricultural Extension and Education undertakes educational and research activities in the following levels and subfields with 8 faculty members (3 associate professors and 5 assistant professors):
